Return of the Blog

So much for blogging every week, huh? Oh well, I always intend to write and it just never happens. My intentions are good!

I am going to use this blog to be a catch up for the past few months.

Michael and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on July 31. I'm so blessed to be married to my best friend!

For our anniversary, we had a "staycation" at the Gaylord Texan. It was both of our first times to ever stay there - we only go every year for the Ice exhibit. We had such a great time - we went to the attached water park and ate at some great restaurants. Word of advice - if you stay here, bring a jacket. It was FREEZING everywhere here.

Our Bible Fellowship class had an Olympic-themed game night and Bethany and I decided to dress like Olympians. We'd definitely pass for Olympians, right?

Our Bible Fellowship class had a brunch at Whiskey Cake in Plano. DELICIOUS!

Sweet Grace turned 16!!!  She had a such a fun party where we learned to square dance...I still need quite a bit of practice. Love you Grace!

We had another "staycation" with the Fechner family after Grace's party. This is the family celebration of Grace's birthday at Benihana. YUM.

More birthdays! Jonathan turned 18! He's legal!

On October 5, sweet baby Cade turned ONE! We loved getting to celebrate his precious life!

WHEW! We are all caught up now. I've got lots of documentable things coming up in the near future...hopefully all of my blog readers can read about them soon...and not 3 months late :)

Harbus Wedding

A few weeks ago we had some very dear friends get married.
What a fun wedding! It was a great weekend to celebrate them and how God has brought them together so wonderfully.
Chris and Michael have been friends their entire lives and it's wonderful to see that they are such great friends 24 years later. Michael and I met Ashley when her and Chris first began dating and we loved her right away! We are so glad they are in our bible fellowship class and also that they now live seconds from us!

the last few months...

It's been a while since I wrote a blog, and I was reminded by my friend Christine that I hadn't written in a while! It's been 2 months since I last wrote a blog and I need to get much better. Thankfully, I've been keeping up with picture taking, so I'll do a recap of the last 2 months and then (hopefully) get back to being a regular blogger :)

In the past 2 months, I've taken the NCE and PASSED which is wonderful, since I studied so much for it! It's a relief to have that completed, and I'm slowly but surely working towards becoming a counselor. I've been job hunting as well, and the Lord is teaching me much about waiting for His timing as well as being patient throughout this process. I've had lots of time to pray and seek what the Lord would have for me in this next season of life.

Michael and I also got to go to Houston while his dad was having treatment at MD Anderson, which was wonderful and a great time to share Christ with others as well as spend time with Memaw and Papaw, who were also visiting.

Our Bible Fellowship class is in a softball league, and it's been fun to play with our friends! We have two cute babies in our class, Cade and Sophie, and I thought it would be fun to make "jerseys" for them as well. Cade is the cutest little boy on the planet, and I tried to get a picture of us in our matching jerseys, and these are the best I got!

Also, about a week ago, Michael said that he had a surprise for me. Eventually, I figured out that we were going to the zoo. This may not seem like a big surprise for an adult, but I was SO excited! The Dallas Zoo has a special koala exhibit, and they are my favorite animal! I have loved them ever since I did a project on the cute little marsupials, and I collected koala things as a child. Anyone who knows me also knows that I am not a fan of animals in general, especially dogs and cats, so the fact that I have a fondness for an animal could be shocking. Maybe it's because I don't have to take care of them and I know I never will.

The next thing I documented was the rat killing that took place at the Fechner house.  A few weeks ago, while Michael and I were staying at his parents house, I took their dog Lacey outside (I know, I know, I was forced to take care of it!) and something caught my eye. Then I saw a giant RAT running towards the fence. Yes, a rat. And yes, it was giant.

A few days ago, Lacey killed a baby rat, which means that the one I saw was probably the mommy rat. This is probably the only time in my life I've ever been proud of an animal.

So, after dinner one night, all of Michael's family and I decided that we needed to put an end to the rat situation and try and kill them. There were holes that the rats were seen in and so we tried many different techniques to try and bring them out so that the boys could slaughter them, even pouring boiling water down the holes. Michael and Jonathan found weapons to kill them, and Grace had a golf club. We even left cheese, but after a while of trying, there were no rat killings.

Watch out rats, we WILL come back for you.

Lastly, a few days ago, my sweet husband made me pancakes for breakfast and brought them to me in bed! This may seem like a messy breakfast for the bed, but I don't like syrup so I just eat them plain, making it ideal! He's the best :)

I'll blog again SOONER rather than LATER. Love you all :)

michael's birthday

One of my favorite days of the year is March 5th, when it's time to celebrate Michael's birthday. It's fun to plan special things and eat lots of cake! Michael began training for his new job on his actual birthday, so we spread the celebration over a few days, which was alright with him!

On the Saturday before his birthday, I took him on a scavenger hunt to find his gift that was from all parents and grandparents; his new iPad! It was fun watching him find the clues and try and guess what the gift was!

Michael with his first clue!
Found the clue and the apple (get it?) in the mailbox!

Next stop: Yogurtville!!

Reading the next clue!

All the clues that led to his iPad!

Then on Sunday, the day before his birthday, my parents came into town and we went to lunch, then to Adventure Landing, to see a movie, and then to Eno's Pizza for dinner and cake!

Enough pictures, let's eat!

Michael was gone for 2 weeks for training and his brother Jonathan and sister Grace were gone on mission trips, so we waited until his whole family was back together to celebrate! We had dinner, more cake, and a family game night! It was a great few days of celebrating; Michael deserves to be celebrated every single day of the year!

freedom

So much for blogging every week! At least I've kept up one end of the New Years Resolution - I have been remembering to take pictures!

For the past 3 years, I've been so blessed to lead a Freedom group at church. I've always gotten to lead my seester Grace's group, which is so much fun because she's my favorite! Her precious friends are wonderful and we have so much fun. It's such a fun weekend where we get to leave the "real world" for a little bit and have time to study and worship and play! Every year, I am so sleep deprived that I consider not leading again the next year...but being able to see these girls grow, growing myself, and getting to see so many people come to Christ, I remember why I love doing this!

First night of Freedom

Jenna and I. Co-leaders!

We take so many pictures, we were trying to come up with a new pose. FAIL

Love these girls

Molly and Grace - cupcake fight!

This is our usual pose...clearly we need a new one.

Fechners at Freedom

Almost the whole group!

This next picture wasn't taken at Freedom, but I wanted to include it. I didn't want to make a whole blog for one picture, but I love it! For Valentine's Day, Michael wanted to go to a Mavericks game. Our friend Chris and Christine have season tickets, and we were able to get seats next to them!

Have a great week!

family and football

It's been a while since I've blogged! It's been a busy few weeks with plenty of things to blog about - finally back on track with my New Years Resolution!!

This week was my father-in-law's birthday and for his birthday, he wanted new family pictures taken! After much deliberation about which colors to wear, we finally got dressed and got ready to take the pictures. It was so fun and I'm so glad we got updated pictures (although Grace was not happy to have braces in them). Michael and I got to take some cute ones as well! Thank you David Edmonson!!

Tonight we celebrated the Super Bowl with our friends from Awakening, and it was so much fun! Let's be honest, I didn't really watch the game; there were two cute babies to play with and lots of girl talk! I know I've said this on every single blog thus far, but we are so blessed by this class and I love all of them!!
